Why we’re doing this

In January 2018, we launched a group-wide challenge to raise money for UNICEF which involves taking three teams of up to 14 people up Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest mountain.

The first expedition will take place in December 2018. The second group will travel to Africa in February 2019 and the third group will go in February 2020.

The Autovista Group challengers will be tackling the Rongai Route. It is one of the medium-length routes, taking around 8 days to complete. Starting from the northern side of the mountain, the Rongai route offers a more gradual ascent, allowing plenty of time to acclimatise to altitude.

What can they expect?

The experience of climbing Kilimanjaro is totally life affirming, personally enriching and completely different from a day at work. So what can our climbers expect?

  • Amazing scenery that is constantly changing the higher they get
  • Working together to ensure as many members of the team make it to the summit as possible (only 60% of those who attempt it make it to the top)
  • Some of the best stargazing ever
  • No privacy; they have to be prepared to pee in a bush!
  • Breakfasting outdoors overlooking the mountain and the plain below
  • Learning how they cope with new challenges
  • Getting to know their colleagues much more intimately!
  • Tears and laughter in equal measure

Teamwork Training…

However, before Kilimanjaro, the teams were tasked with tackling the UK’s Three Peaks. Over the course of a week-end, each team must climb three of the UK’s highest peaks: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales. This part of the challenge is designed to help our climbers prepare mentally and also to help them bond as a team. Please visit their blogs to hear more about how the 3-Peaks Challenge went…

Our objectives…

This challenge is about the journey… and about ‘learning on the way up’. We wish all of our challengers the very best, but this is not about getting to the top of Kilimanjaro. It’s about pushing boundaries, learning about yourself, working together as a team, raising money for the world’s most vulnerable children and hopefully getting as far up Africa’s highest peak as possible. But – whether they make it to the top or not – every one of our challengers who does their very best at tackling all four of our objectives will have succeeded.

  • Personal growth & development – reaching your potential
  • Teamwork – working as a team, supporting and relying upon each other
  • Fundraising – raising a lot of money for a very good cause
  • Climbing the mountain – the physical challenge
