Knowing your facts: Using them to your advantage
October 29, 2018

I’m not normally someone who takes much interest in quotes and inspirational language posted on social media, but recently I came across this quote from Richard Branson which captures one of the reasons I put myself forward for Kili in addition to what I have discovered so far:

“If it scares you then it’s probably something you should be doing – this is what keeps life interesting and helps you fulfil your potential.  Only by pushing yourself to your limits will you ever know what you’re truly capable of – and you’ll probably have a lot of fun along the way.”

I knew I would be way beyond my comfort zone even by blogging! Before the 3 Peaks, my entire social media involvement was a LinkedIn account with no activity; now I’m tweeting, blogging and have turned to my LinkedIn contacts asking for donations. Then on the 3 Peaks I decided for some reason to floss at the top of each peak – this was definitely out of my comfort zone and amplified by the lovely Clare Renton pushing the number of views close to 200. To think that 200 people have viewed my uncoordinated efforts on top of Ben Nevis may never sit very comfortably with me.

But what I didn’t factor in was the fun element. And by fun I include being pelted by hail on Ben Nevis and almost blown off the top of Snowdon by high winds. For some reason I feel more comfortable in those situations than I do sharing the very same experiences on social media. Some of the fundraising ideas we are thinking about might prove uncomfortable for me at first, but I think there will also be some fun too……………….
