Vacation!

It feels like it’s been a while since I was on vacation… but it was just 8 days ago when I landed back in Madrid.

I went to Colombia and I highly recommend visiting the country! It is amazing. It was a complete trip: desert, cities, national parks, beach, trekking, mountains, small villages, whales… really cool trip.

In this post I will only talk about my first week in Colombia and in further post, I will try to talk about my following weeks.

During this first week I did an incredible 3 day tour in the North of Colombia in the “Guajira”. This is a deserted area close to Venezuela’s border. It is an area where the “Wuayuu” live. They are native people that live in the middle of the desert. It is truly incredible how they manage to live here.

I can summarize this 3 days trip with the following list:

-Sleeping in hammocks in “Cabo de la Vela” and “Punta Gallinas”. Really cool experience because during the night in the middle of nowhere you are able to see the incredible stars.

– Desert, more desert and cactus. It was not the first desert that I’ve seen in my life; Atacama in Chile, Sahara desert in Morocco… but I always have the same felling. The grandiosity of these areas make you feel … really small… and that is an experience that I recommend.

– Wuayuu people…. It was incredible to see how they live here. It is true that there is a Native City call Uribia, but there are many small villages in the middle of nowhere. Something that made me really sad was to see plastic everywhere close to the city and villages in the Guajira… obviously we have the same issue across Europe, however, as we have rubbish collection system we don’t see it as much. This really made me realise the negative impact we are having on the planet.

After this incredible tour I went to Tayrona’s park. It is a national park in the Caribbean coast with a tropical weather. This was amazing; we saw monkeys, several insects and crabs that were pretty big and colorful. And the beaches look… let’s say… unreal! Looks like a poster. Here we did several “small trekkings” with amazing views and it was the training for our real trekking that I will talk about in my next post 🙂

To summarize…visit Colombia!!
