Lake District challenge!! UBUNTU TEAM!
October 16, 2019

Just a quick update unfortunately I couldn’t post this earlier due to my travels for the employee forum but on Sunday morning I ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon!!

Leading up to the day I constantly found myself in two minds about running due to the ankle injury in Aug.

One side being with little to zero training I thought it a risk re-injuring myself, but on the other side it meant a lot to me running this event for UNICEF ( 2nd year going) and I didn’t want to let those down who already donated towards me…Although I knew they wouldn’t have cared!

So the night before I agreed with the boss (wife) that I’d run to ‘complete’ not ‘compete’ .. and it turned out to be a fantastic decision!

Rather than keeping my head down and focusing on my pace/timings I actually took in the scenes of London and the support people were showing towards each other which really helped slog through the miles.

Also on reflection, this turned out to be really important and a great training exercise as it’s going to be a similar situation with climbing Kilimanjaro. A slow pace, long hours and will require us supporting each other to get through the tough times.

I finished with sore legs but no lasting pains and the funny part is I finished with a time of 2hrs 04mins beating last year’s time.

Overall very happy 🙂
