Day off, go for a walk!
November 20, 2019

It is now some weeks without posting, right after the lake District Challenge. I explained what Lake District Challenge meant to me in one post, but coming back to normal was difficult to me, I must admit that after that experience, I was “out of normal” for some days/weeks, even if it was “only” 3-4 days and “only “UK”. The mountain and team Ubuntu taught me a new way of life and feeling, and facing life exactly as it was before the Lake District trip was a challenge bigger than the adventure itself. I came back to normal with some changes in me but people and things were still the same. I will be honest, I didn’t even think about the post-Lake District, but it has taken some weeks to be focused again and to understand that even if lake District was huge and meant a lot to me, it might not be considered like this for people not involved in the Kilimanjaro Challenge, not everybody has the obligation to celebrate all my small steps and wins, I learnt this (but it took time) and it is totally fine!! After the explosion of incredible experiences thanks to the Lake District Challenge, I needed a break after feeling this kind of disappointment in my first week back, but this is over and I’m back on track! I am starting my training again, reading, tweeting, posting and having long walks in the last few days. Also, I shared this with some friends from team Ascenders and Twende and surprisingly, I was not alone in here, similar experiences were raised! thank you very much for your great advices and support. I must say thank you as well to my friends, family and colleagues that celebrated the success and supported me and Team Ubuntu while and after the Lake District Challenge. Every tweet, like, message, and aech “how are you”? “how was it?” “how did you feel”? “was it difficult”? and “congrats” meant the world to me.

And now, full of energies again!!!

I can relate your words Ana. It is true, it’s hard to explain to everyone how important this is to us and how much it means. I struggle with the same issue. Oh and i miss you and everyone of the team. It won’t be long now when we meet again! Time flies!

thanks, Kati! I hope you are also feeling better in this regard and fully motivated, what is coming is huge! ! I also miss you, and I am here for any support!! thanks, Kati!!

Oh Ana, this gives me goosebumps, again. You are not alone with this! And kudos to you for expressing it so openly. This whole experience does something with you, and many people cannot relate, don’t even think about it or sometimes act stupidly. It can hurt sometimes, it did certainly hurt me after the three peaks and of course after Kili. However, they don’t do it on purpose, they just don’t know better… You are amazing, all of Team Ubuntu are, and you are on a fantastic journey, which will stay in your memory forever. Celebrate every minute and don’t let anybody taint it. I wish someone had told me this a year ago. Reach out to the Ascenders, Twende and the other Ubuntus, we’re in this together!!!

Ana – I can completely understand what you are saying! You have done something that has already changed your life – even before Kili – and when you come home, many people are (of course) focusing on their day to day lives as nothing has changed for them. I know I felt like shouting from the roof tops ‘do you know what I’ve just done and what it meant to me!’. And many many people were interested and wanted to chat about it – but some did not. It takes a while to be content just with yourself about what you have achieved and will achieve – and how it will change you for ever. So good for you for now feeling motivated again – all of your Kili colleagues – past and present – are there for you supporting all the way 🙂

Ana – that was Pippa – I didn’t add my name!

    • Ana says:

oh Pippa, thank you so much! I really felt weird about this at the begining but now I understand that this feeling is more common than I thought, it is good to feel that I am kind of “understood” by the Kili colleagues :-). Thank you very much for your words and support!
