My journey so far…

My training journey
September 24, 2018
It starts with Box Hill
September 24, 2018

By end of August I realised that there are only 4 weeks left. So I intensified my trainings session to at least daily exercises – sometimes even two times daily (morning, evening).

UNICEF donations: I am completely honored and impressed that so much people supported me already and I gained already almost 70% of the personal target

I did already a lot of hiking sessions: together with Olivier Lourdin – Head of Marketing AT/CH. With my brother Dieter I did a three days hiking tour on the Hochschwab in Austria. And I did a tour together with Max Kummerer and Anne Lange from Eurotax Austria who are part of Kili group 2.

Next weekend we will do a hike together with Max and Peter Fiala from our SK DDC team – who is as well part of Kili group 2.

So far, on this Kilimanjaro ‘journey’, I’ve learned three things:

  1. Hiking in Austria is unbelievable beautiful – I really regret that I didn’t spend more time on the mountains in the last years
  2. Target like this accelerate your motivation doing sports.
  3. Mountain equipment for such a high mountain tour is a special science. I spend a lot of hours in reading information, comparing test results ie. For sleeping bags, therm a rest mats, winter jackets and gloves to find there right balance of water proof, breathable, and warming characteristics.

My favourite day so far:  it’s been 5 months since I found out that I’m one of the Kilimanjaro Challengers.  So far, my favourite day of preparation was when I did the biggest challence on the three days hiking tour on the Hochschwab, sleeping in simple mountain huts without running water and water toilets. So the first three days without shower. Really basic – but for sure very similar to conditions on the Kili.
