With Kili only 3 weeks ago, my final fitness preparation is to extend the distance I cover on my regular runs.  Just to build a bit more stamina and as much strength in my legs as possible. As a regular runner, I am used to good days and bad days – sometimes I feel like Mo Farah, sometimes I feel as if I am just continually running uphill and in to the wind. This Saturday was a bad day and I felt I was running through treacle.  I also had a fuzzy head – perhaps the result of the red wine from the night before. I was struggling but then realised that this was in fact ideal training for Kili – a sore head and finding it hard to go at my normal pace is something I will definitely be experiencing in 3 weeks time! So I tried to take a little positive and even a little pleasure out of my pain as I plodded along to my destination – Billericay!  Having reached Billericay (and the sign pictured above) I then realised I now had to run all the way home too – perhaps for the Ascenders they might sympathise with getting to your destination and then realising they have to get back again!  However I think the similarities with Kili then end there – Billericay is a town in Essex 28 miles east of London and perhaps most notably it stands just 90 metres above sea level!

I’m sure I have drunk some fine ales in Billericay Tom, unfortunately the hair of the dog will be missing on that mountain.

That said, the europhia of hitting the top will disipate any ill feeling you have, as you look above the heavens and feel on top of the world!

Have an amazing time Tom, I’ll be rooting for you!
