Some old but unwelcome friends…

After getting off to a great start (even if I say so myself), last week I bumped into a couple of old friends and spent a bit more time with them than I would have liked.

They’re the kind of friends that you always regret hanging out with, but for some reason have a hard time getting rid of.

Sadly, these guys are a bit more trouble to block out than simply turning my phone off or cutting out on facebook. Nope, unfortunately Procrastination and Poor Excuses have their own house keys and turn up on their schedule not mine!

For one reason or another I managed to avoid almost all of the training I’d intended to do. “I’ll do it tomorrow”, “My partner’s getting home early, it’d be great to spend extra time together”, “I didn’t sleep well” all came out of their hiding spots one after another and  before i knew it, I was looking back at a wasted week and feeling pretty rubbish about it.

In some ways it may have been helpful as even though I’ve only just started making lifestyle changes, I can already feel the negative effects of my week of lethargy and to be honest, I don’t like it. I’d started noticing some general improvements and worry a chunk of that work has come undone a bit.

I often find that speaking out goals publicly makes them more likely to happen (if only to avoid the public shame of not sticking to my word). So onward and upward. This week will be different and I’ll make sure my unwelcome friends stay at home.
