Day Four, 6am
OUR HEROS
by Rolf Roth
Before we start breakfast on Day Four, I want to say something to our porters, guides, cooks, waiters and water supporters…and I know I speak for the whole team:
YOU ARE OUR REAL HEROS. Without you, we wouldn’t even have made it to Third Cave, where we are now. You are so much more than just porters, guides and cooks. You care about us. You help motivate us every day. You tell us every day that you are here for us and will do everything to help us make our dream come true.
Ubuntu means “I am because we are”…or the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. You are all certainly showing us the truth of this every day.
Thank you for all you are doing for us. Asanti sana! (Thank you in Swahili)
Thank you for your beautiful words and photos, Rolf.

100% agree! Such a great team we had and don’t just mean Ubuntu but the whole Ashante Tours people who helped us to make this possible!
I had such great talks with them when at Kibo waiting for the others to descent and appreciate it even more how they made sure our experience was the best possible.
Our head guide Michael said it multiple times that “We are here for you to make your dream come true” Such a poetic sentence that I will always remember it. Not to mention the joy in their faces when the tips were announced. So happy to help out these people who are genuinely happy and positive even though they don’t have much.
Maximum! Respect!
