Satellite Phone Update from Team Ubuntu:  16th February 2020

Tea & Cakes on the Mountainside!

At about 3pm today, we heard the great news that Team Ubuntu are all well and healthy.  They left Third Cave this morning at 8am and arrived at Kibo Camp (the last camp before the summit!) at about 1pm.  Although the walk today was quite rainy and chilly, they stopped halfway for a cup of tea and piece of cake – thanks to the team’s wonderful team of cooks.

Upon arrival in camp, Team Ubuntu enjoyed a ‘chicken and chips’ lunch – again thanks to the cooks.  After lunch, they had a rest.  The only ailments today were some very mild nausea and slight ‘on and off’ headaches for a few of the team.  However, as soon as they rested, everyone felt better.

The plan is to have an early supper and try to get some sleep before leaving for the summit at 4am tomorrow morning (1am UK time/2amCET).  We expect the climb to the summit to take around 11/12 hours, so we should expect to hear news by 4pm tomorrow (Monday, 17th February).

We have asked the guides to give us satellite phone updates for every climber as they make the summit and then again as they get into camp in the evening.  However, this is completely dependent on the satellite phone connection.  We will post updates on this site as soon as we can, but please do not be alarmed if you don’t hear anything right at 4pm as we may not get an update until they are back in camp.

If you have any concerns, please do feel free to email or What’s App us:

We are delighted that the team is feeling so healthy and strong – they are doing brilliantly!
