Why do you want to climb Mt Kilimanjaro?
It’s a big adventure and a once in a lifetime experience. I want to broaden my horizon and meet new people.
What has been the most challenging thing about this initiative so far?
One of the most challenging things was to organise the equipment. For each sport you need your own stuff and outfit. Mountain gear I had little to none. Still haven’t got everything, it’s an ongoing process.
What is the most interesting thing you have learned about yourself so far?
I do a lot of different sports, but hiking was never one of my priorities – I learned that long walks uphill with an advanced tempo can be very challenging, but you get rewarded with a beautiful view.
How are you raising your UNICEF funds?
I am very happy and thankful that I reached nearly 80% of my fundraising target by family and friends.
If there was going to be a Kilimanjaro playlist for your climb, what song would you choose?
I got two songs: Toto-Africa (Classic) and Fat Joe – All the way up.
What luxury are you planning on taking up the mountain with you?
Personal hygiene stuff and maybe a loudspeaker, so we can dance and refresh our tired feet.
Is there anything you are ‘dreading’?
Not really, I am looking forward to live outdoors for a few days with only essential things. I have respect from the height.
What are you looking forward to most?
Meeting new people, sharing an adventure with them, travelling new places and coming back to Africa after 25 Years.
