Day 5 – Summit Day!
December 18, 2018

Shock news tonight. Tomorrow was meant to be a rest/aclimataisation day. Whitey says we will summit tomorrow instead, setting off at 6.30am. I was rocked by this at first – don’t like change! But now I’m so happy about the new plan and completely trust Whitey, Chunga, Etenay, Julio and Justin completely! He says we are ready for it based on performance so far and his thoughts on the weather conditions and doing it in daylight. The daylight idea is a big plus for all of us. It also means after the peak, if we make it, we can come back and stay all night here. Not just a few hours rest and then more walking down to next camp – so sounds good. I feel sick still and have a headache but did manage to eat something at dinner. I’ve taken ibuprofen and paracetamol but really holding off on the diomox, or whatever you call it, until I am absolutely desperate. It would mean you have to drink even more water and I’m already drinking constantly. The worry about the shift in plan in how Martin, Mike and Keris will be in the morning. They are suffering more than most. Other than some headaches and sickness – everyone is OK. Chema, Simon, Thibault, Joe and Juan are doing great. Let’s hope we can all start together and reach the summit together!

It’s freezing tonight and I had uncontrollable shakes before bed. Sonja helped me get my water ready for the morning. I’ve arranged everything ready and now it’s time for (hopefully) some sleep – or at best, rest. It’s only 8.45pm but it feels much later.

Here’s to tomorrow! Night night” Thinking of Rob, Sonny, Harv and Scamp tonight! I think they would all be proud of me 🙂 even if I don’t make it to the peak.
